I didn't just listen to sad, beautiful music in High School. To prove it, I will be looking at Black Sea by XTC. I can't wait to do this one. This is where XTC really became great song writers.
It really seemed like 2016 wanted nothing better than to kill off many of my musical heros. It was brutal. With that in mind, I decided to make a New Year's resolution for the first time in just about forever. My resolution was to write more and to listen to more music. Coincidently, I was listening to a playlist I had made, thinking I should listen to this whole album or that whole album. That's when I decided to combine the two: I will listen to an album that I've neglected for a while and then write down my thoughts and memories about it. (Ablum covers depicted may or may not show up in the reviews).
First up: This Picture - A Violent Impression |
Once upon a time I would listen to a whole album with no impatience whatsoever. Usually hidden in the album somewhere beyond the single(s) I would find my favorite song. Now with the advent of MP3 players and iPods I find myself listening to playlists on shuffle. No longer full albums but favorite tracks jumping from one to another. It's not altogether bad, I make the playlists full of good songs after all. It's just like a mixtape. But it's hard to go back from that, to regain the patience to sit through every song and not skip to a track I know that I like. That's part of what this blog is intended for me to do: get back to listening to the whole album (in order).
